IT PeripheralsThe Faculty IT group maintains a store of frequently ordered or useful IT peripheral items to ensure that these items are on hand and available for quick and easy purchase. Items purchased from the peripheral store are internally billed to a cost centre and fund. To purchase an item, simply log your request in Jobdesk. A technician will assess stock on hand and if available can arrange pickup or delivery of the item on campus. If stock is not available to fulfil your order, the technician will provide you product quotes and after approval is provided, complete a requisition on your behalf to purchase the item from an approved vendor. We stock the following types of items:
If you believe there is something else that should be stocked, please contact your school IT steering committee representative. Systems are currently being investigated to provide the list of stocked items on the web. Purchasing rules for peripheralsIT peripherals are an item that must be purchased in accordance with University purchasing rules. An IT purchasing guideline has been developed to assist you to understand the purchasing rules. The IT purchasing guideline can be located here. Portable Hard Drive purchasesThe Faculty is actively discouraging the purchase of external or portable hard drive units. Further to the Faculty discouraging the purchase of these devices, the research data website has an excellent page on Storage and Backup detailing the reasons against using an external drive and options available for researchers. A significant portion of storage space is available through the eResearch LaRDS service. Space for teaching and admin functions is available on the Novell V: drive. Why discourage portable hard drive purchases?
Users requesting the purchase of a portable hard drive will be asked a number of questions relating to proposed use of the drive and may be required to justify the purchase to their Head of School or the Academic Director of IT with a business case. For more information, please log a request in Jobdesk and we can assist you in finding the right place to store your data. |
