Verification of failure of units procedure

Parent policy: Assessment of coursework policy

University Education Policy requires each faculty to have a process (reported to, and approved by, Academic Board) for verifying results which contribute to a final fail result.

Because assessment which takes place prior to terminal examinations allows students to query their marks at the time, students’ rights in that setting are covered.

Procedure:

Action Responsibility
1. Where an overall final mark of a student is 49 or less, a complete check shall be made of the final examination paper in question to establish that the examination  marks and the in-semester marks have been tallied correctly. In addition, where the overall final mark is in the range of 40 to 49, the final theory examination paper should be remarked by a second marker. Unit coordinator
Chief Examiner
2. Records of all papers remarked shall be kept, including the names of the first and second markers and the date of the second marking. Chief Examiner
Head of School
