Policy statement
- Students who have previously completed two semesters or more of tertiary studies (full time or part time) are not eligible for NP results.
- Students in single degree courses managed by the Faculty of Science shall be entitled to count towards their degree a maximum of two NP grades in their first two semesters of tertiary study only.
- Students in all science double-degree courses with a single science component, will be permitted a maximum of one NP grade for a science unit in the first two semesters of tertiary study only. Where the double degree course is managed by another faculty, the Faculty of Science Board of Examiners will recommend to the Board of Examiners of the other faculty that the same rule be applied.
- Students in double-degree courses with both components in science will be permitted a maximum of two NP grades in their first two semesters of tertiary study only.
- Where in a given semester, a student obtains results in the range 45-49 in more units than their remaining NP entitlement, the Board of Examiners shall determine in which unit(s) the NP grade(s) will be assigned. The decision shall be made so that student progression within the course is maximised. This decision could be changed at a later stage with approval from the Associate Dean (Teaching) in circumstances where the student changes direction in the program of study.
- Where the NP is not to count towards the degree, it shall be converted to a fail.
- Unless prerequisites explicitly state otherwise, units with NP grades may be counted as satisfactory completion of the prerequisites for higher level units.
