Thesis examination and supportThis page gives an overview of the thesis examination procedures for students enrolled in each of the different Faculty of Science postgraduate research courses as well as information on support services for students under thesis examination.
1.Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil)Students enrolled in the courses Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) should consult the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS) guide to Doctoral and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) examination which gives an overview of the doctoral examination process, and includes all relevant forms for the nomination of examiners and the submission of the thesis. 2. Master of Science (MSc)The Faculty of Science office oversees the thesis examination of its Master of Science (MSc) students. Students and their supervisors should consult the faculty webpage on examination procedures for Master of Science theses. 3. Master of Science PreliminarySchools of the faculty coordinate examinations for Master of Science Preliminary students. Students and their supervisors should consult the Policies and guidelines for admission, candidature, and award of degree for the course Master of Science Preliminary with respect to requirements for thesis format and submission. 4. Junior Honorary Research AssociateStudents who have submitted their thesis for examination lose their status as a student and are no longer entitled to access libraries and other university services. However, they may apply to be appointed as a Junior Honorary Research Associate for an initial period of no longer than six months that will allow them to have a Monash University Staff identity card with full staff access rights. There is no salary entitlement with this appointment. 5. Postgraduate Publications Award (PPA)The Postgraduate Publications Award provides support for students who, having submitted their thesis, wish to write up some of their research for publication while they await the result of their examination. Stipend support, equivalent to the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) rate, is available for a period of up to three months. Further information
