The Graduate Certificate in Science Studies (GradCertSciStud) offers graduates in any discipline an opportunity to undertake additional studies in one specialist area of science up to second-year undergraduate level, through the completion of a 24-point minor sequence in a science discipline. The specific units to be taken towards a minor sequence are those described for each science discipline that is available as a minor sequence towards the Bachelor of Science (BSc).
A minor sequence in science comprises an approved combination of four 6-point science units in the same, or a closely-related, area of study with no more that two of those units at level one. An example of a minor sequence in an area of study is two 6-point units at level one and two 6-point units in the same area at level two.
Students are also able to articulate from the Graduate Certificate in Science Studies into the Graduate Diploma in Science (GradDipSc) if they wish to continue their studies in the same discipline and complete a major sequence.
The specific units to be taken towards a minor sequence are those described for each science discipline that is available as a minor sequence towards the Bachelor of Science (BSc). Full details are given in the Monash Undergraduate Handbook for the Clayton campus and the Gippsland campus.
Studies can be undertaken in most disciplines for which a minor sequence is currently available for the course Bachelor of Science (BSc) including:
Clayton campus - astronomy and astrophysics, atmospheric science, biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, developmental biology, ecology and conservation biology, genetics, geography and environmental science, geosciences, human pathology, immunology, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, physics, physiology, plant sciences, soil science, statistics and zoology.
Gippsland campus – applied biochemistry, applied microbiology, applied chemistry, resource and environmental management, human physiology and mathematics and modelling.
Completion of an approved undergraduate degree in any discipline.
Online applications to commence in semester one 2010 will open on 2 November 2009 and close on 8 January 2010. No late applications will be accepted.
