The Graduate Diploma in Science (GradDipSc) offers graduates an opportunity to undertake additional studies in one specialist area of science up to third-year undergraduate level, through the completion of a 48-point major sequence in a science discipline.
A major sequence in science comprises an approved combination of eight 6-point science units in the same, or closely-related, area of study over three years (or full-time equivalent). These must include a total of at least six 6-point units at levels two and three, with at least three 6-point units at level three.
Students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Science will be eligible to seek entry into the course Bachelor of Science (Honours) or Master of Science Preliminary if they meet the entry requirements.
Students intending to apply for Honours in Science should include a minimum of 24 points of studies in relevant units at level three.
The specific units to be taken towards a major sequence are those described for each science discipline that is available as a major sequence towards the Bachelor of Science (BSc). Full details are given in the Monash Undergraduate Handbook for the Clayton campus and the Gippsland campus.
Studies can be undertaken in most disciplines for which a major sequence is currently available for the course Bachelor of Science (BSc) including
Clayton campus - astrophysics, atmospheric science, biochemistry, biological sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, developmental biology, ecology and conservation biology, genetics, geography and environmental science, geosciences, human pathology, immunology, marine and freshwater biology, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, physics, physiology, plant sciences, statistics and zoology.
Gippsland campus - applied biochemistry, applied microbiology, applied chemistry, resource and environmental management, and mathematics and modelling.
Completion of an approved undergraduate degree in any discipline.
Online applications to commence in semester one 2010 will open on 2 November 2009 and close on 8 January 2010. No late applications will be accepted.
