Support grants for Science postgraduates

A number of support grants for postgraduates are available through Monash University and the faculty, including those in the following broad areas.

  1. Travel for conference attendance or fieldwork / research outside Victoria
  2. Publications based on work contained in a thesis
  3. Rental support via Monash residential services

1. Travel for conference attendance or fieldwork / research outside Victoria

  • Equity Travel Grant Scheme for postgraduate research students
Approximately 20 equity travel grants will be awarded in 2008 to eligible applicants through the Monash Access program. A number of factors may affect a candidate’s ability to undertake a period of essential study away to pursue fieldwork, visit archives and laboratories or attend a conference. These include, for example: a disability or long-term medical condition; socio-economic disadvantage; and / or adverse long-term family or domestic circumstances.

Unlike the existing travel grants, these special awards meet not only air fares, but may also meet other associated costs, for example: conference registration; accommodation; and incidentals such as meals and local transport. Grants of up to $3000, depending on an applicant’s personal circumstances, will be made under the program.

Applicants seeking equity travel grants should complete the standard postgraduate travel grant form. The entire form, including Section A1, must be completed. Applicants will automatically be considered for both these equity and the standard postgraduate travel awards. However, successful applicants will only be able to accept one award with respect to any single period of study away.

Deadline for applicants to apply to the MRGS: none (ongoing)
