Area of study: Ecology

  • Ecology is the study of interactions between plants, animals and the environment. It is concerned with the delicate balance between organisms and the ecosystems in which they live.
  • Ecology aims to explain patterns and processes in the natural world and to predict how plants and animals (individuals, populations and communities) at a range of levels will respond under particular circumstances, including those caused by human activity.
  • The specific units studied are in the areas of ecology, marine biology, botany, zoology, genetics and mammalian biology.
  • Students are well-equipped to undertake further research into groups of organisms, species interaction and related areas.
