My Job
I find working as a Forest Officer for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Orbost challenging as it is always presenting new problems to overcome and I need to find innovative solutions. It can be both physically and mentally demanding and each day is different. It is interesting as it involves many different tasks including fire fighting, aerial seeding, harvesting, supervision, protest management, silvicultural operations as well as a broad range of other tasks. Working for the NRE has given me opportunities I cannot get elsewhere including training for personnel and professional development.
My Degree
This degree has been ideal in gaining essential qualifications required for my position. The scope of my degree has given me a broader understanding of natural resource management.
The positive aspects of working at Gippsland include the smaller personal nature of the campus, the layout and natural surroundings. Being close to home and natural resource industries is also an advantage. It was easy to develop good relationships with academic staff.
