"I find working as a microbiologist an interesting and challenging profession."

My Job

In this position I am responsible for testing a variety of dairy products for quality control for pathogenic organisms like Salmonella spp, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. These products include milk powders, cheese, butter, cream and UHT milk. We use a variety of tests and methods to test for these organisms in order to guarantee top quality produce for the consumer.

I find working as a microbiologist to be an interesting and challenging profession. I employ a large variety of techniques to detect, quantify and examine the produce that is manufactured, which makes my job one that is always offering something different to do. The personal satisfaction that I get from seeing one of our products on the supermarket shelf is very rewarding, and knowing that I helped clear that food for release and sale.

My Degree

My degree at Monash University Gippsland was one of the most positive experiences of my life. The staff and lecturers were friendly and helpful and offered me one on one help. The location was scenic and yet still had access to everything one desires. People were all on a first name basis and were willing to help each other out. Thanks to my degree, I now have a well paid and satisfying job that I would not have been able to achieve otherwise. I would recommend this career option to anyone that has an interest in the microbiological field of studies.
