Domestic student applications

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and other Australian Year 12

For admission into an undergraduate science degree you must have successfully completed VCE or an equivalent qualification.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

IB students need English at a minimum grade of four (standard level) for all science courses; except for the following programs:

  • The Bachelor of Science Advanced with Honours requires a minimum grade of five (standard level) or four (higher level) in English, mathematical methods and at least two of biology, chemistry, geography, physics or mathematics
  • The Bachelor of Science (Science Scholar Program) requires English at a minimum grade of five (standard level) or four (higher level), either mathematical methods at seven or mathematics at six, and either chemistry or physics at a minimum of seven (standard level) or six (higher level)
  • Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Business and Commerce requires English and mathematics (any) at a minimum grade of four (standard level)
  • Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Computer Science requires English at a minimum grade of four (standard level) and mathematical methods or mathematics
  • Bachelor of Information Technology/Bachelor of Science requires English and mathematics (any) at a minimum grade of four (standard level)

Non-school-leavers

Monash Science encourages applications from non-school-leavers.

Undertaking the following studies enables students to meet minimum entry requirements, but does not guarantee an offer for our courses. In some cases students may be eligible for advanced standing if they do gain admission to a degree.

To be eligible for selection non-school-leavers must have studied in the previous five years:

TAFE

Diploma Graduates

To be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with:

  • A science based diploma requires average results of at least 60%, or 70% to be considered for the BA/BSc and BSc/BCompSc, and 80% to be considered for BscAdv(Hons).
  •  A non-science based diploma will require average results of at least 70%, or 80% to be considered for BA//BSc and BSc/BCompSc.

Applicants who have not completed VCE but have completed:

  • A science-based diploma will require average results of at least 70%, or 80% to be considered for the BA/BSc and BSc/BCompSc.
  • A non-science-based diploma will require average results of at least 80%
Certificate graduates

Science-based certificate-level graduates will be considered where the
applicant has average results of 80% or above. For applicants who have also completed VCE, both qualifications will be considered. No credit is granted for these studies.

Open Learning Australia

Successfully completed two units with at least credit average marks.

Single university units

Two single units satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units may be useful for selection, especially in science areas.
Applicants for the single-degree programs, except BScAdv(Hons), should have at least a 60% average in their studies.
Those without year 12 prerequisites for particular courses need to complete units that correspond to these prerequisites (eg Mathematics methods for Science/Computer Science).
These studies need to have been completed no more than five years prior to admission.

Application procedure

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, or a citizen of New Zealand, your application should be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).

This applies even if you have studied year 12 interstate or overseas, or if you are a mature-aged person returning to study. For more information contact VTAC:
