Undergraduate courses

How to apply?

Applications must be completed and returned to the Faculty of Science office at the relevant campus by 13 June 2008

If you are a Non-Monash (external) applicant, you must attach to your application a certified copy of:

  • your year 12 results, and your ENTER score or equivalent
  • your academic transcript of results if studied at another tertiary institution

Please note that original documents are accepted but will not be returned.

International external (non-Monash) applicants should refer to the
Future International Students website.

Credit for previous studies

Students who have previously studied at Monash or at another tertiary institution can apply for credit for successfully completed units at a similar level and standard. To be eligible for credit, previous study must have been completed within 10 years prior to the application for credit. Applications for credit for study at another institution must include the unit syllabus (units synopsis, assessment, number of hours, textbook used and full time load equivalence) for the year the unit was studied.

Note:

Students commencing their studies in semester two should be aware that the choice of units in some areas of study can be limited and that they may not be able to enrol in some units if they have not satisfied the prerequisites or corequisites. Please refer to the undergraduate handbook for unit information.

Eligibility for admission into undergraduate science courses

To be eligible for consideration for selection all applicants must satisfy the University English language proficiency and age requirements and the course specific prerequisites.

School Leaver Applicants

School Leaver Applicants are those students who are seeking admission on the basis of their current Year 12 qualification (completed in the previous year). Applicants must have a clearly in VCE Enter Score (or equivalent) for the course for which they are applying and must have satisfied the University English language proficiency requirements.

Non-Year 12 Applicants

The minimum academic requirement to be eligible for consideration for admission from an applicant who completed VCE more than five years ago or has not completed VCE (or equivalent) is:

Those who completed VCE more than five years ago (including VCE Units 3 and 4 of English (any) and then the successful completion within the last two years of:

  • The equivalent of a Certificate IV in Science (graded assessment); or
  • Two university level units.

Those applicants without VCE seeking admission must have completed within the last two years either:

  • The equivalent of a Certificate IV in Science (graded assessment); or
  • Two university level units (these would normally be in an “English rich” area of study to satisfy the minimum English language requirement).

Eligibility for consideration of admission will be based on an assessment of achievement or potential success and will be based on academic achievement.

Minimum academic achievement standards required for consideration of an offer are:

  • 60% for single degree programs for courses with an ENTER score of between 70-79 (70% for Certificate IV);
  • 70% for combined degree programs and for single degree programs with an ENTER score between 80-94;
  • 80% for single and combined degree programs with an ENTER score of 95 and above.

Internal Transfer Applicants

Students would normally have completed the equivalent of 48 credit points of studies.

The following principles of admission for internal transfer applicants will be applied:
(a) Students currently enrolled in a single degree course managed by the Faculty of Science seeking admission (transfer) to another course managed by the faculty will need to have achieved across the previous 48 credit points of study an average of:

  • Transfer from a single or double degree to single degree for courses where the published ENTER score is between 70-79 will be considered on a case by case basis;
  • 70% for transfer from a single or double degree to single degree (for courses where the published ENTER score is between 80-94);
  • 80% for transfer from single or double degree to single degree (for courses where the published ENTER score is 95 and above).

(b) Students in a single or double degree course managed by the Faculty of Science seeking admission (transfer) to a double degree course managed by the faculty will need to have achieved across the previous 48 credit points of study an average of:

  • 60% average for courses where the published ENTER score is between 70 – 80
  • 70% average for courses where the published ENTER score is between 80 - 94;
  • 80% average for courses where the published ENTER score is 95 and above.

(c) Students in a single or double degree course not managed by the Faculty of Science seeking admission (transfer) to a course managed by the faculty will need to have achieved across the previous 48 credit points of study an average of:

Transfer to single degree:

  • 60% for transfer to a single degree where the published ENTER score is between 70 - 79;
  • 70% for transfer to a single degree where the published ENTER score is between 80-94.
  • 80% for transfer to a single degree where the published ENTER score is 95 and above.

Transfer to double degree

  • 70% average for double courses where the published ENTER score is between 80 - 94;
  • 80% average for double courses where the published ENTER score is 95 and above.
