The annual RACI Research & Development Topics conference has been running for the last 12 years with great success, hosted by various universities around Australia. This year the 13th annual Research & Development Topics conference will be held at Toorak College, Mt Eliza on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula from the 10th to 13th of December 2005, hosted by Monash University.

The conference is aimed at promising honours, masters and PhD students, as well as young researchers from industry who are currently undertaking research in analytical or environmental chemistry. Previous conferences have registered over 100 delegates in the fields of analytical and environmental chemistry, with students highlighting their research through oral seminars and poster sessions.

The conference was initiated in 1992 by Professor Neil Barnett (School of Biological & Chemical Science, Deakin University) and is based on a similar conference for postgraduate students held by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). The conference is unique in that it is a conference attended by postgraduate students, and organized by postgraduate students
