Enrolment and re-enrolment

Change of units

Sometimes we all make mistakes! You may find that a unit you have enrolled in is not what you thought it would be like. You may also find that you cannot cope with the workload. Depending on when you discover this, you have a number of options:

  1. Drop the unit (formally discontinue it) and replace it immediately with another unit (enrol in another) – this can only be done easily before the end of the second week of semester.
  2. Drop the unit (formally discontinue it), without replacing it immediately. This may add an extra semester of study to your degree, and may add extra costs.
  3. Continue with the unit, and get extra advice or help by talking to your unit coordinator, lecturer or tutors.

Note that if you drop all units then you will need to apply for intermission, otherwise you will lose your place in the course.

Be aware of the time limits within which you can drop units and enrol in new ones. Missing deadlines may result in you having to pay for units even when you stopped attending classes and you are not interested in completing them.

Important deadlines

You can change units without penalty (option 1 above) by using WES, up until the Friday of the second week in the semester.

After the second week of the semester and before census date (which falls on the Friday of the fourth week of the semester) you can replace a unit with another only in exceptional circumstances and with permission from the unit coordinator and the faculty. You must make this change through the Faculty Office using a Manual Enrolment Form; a late enrolment penalty fee will apply.  If you do not gain this permission, you are in the position of option 2 above.

All units you are enrolled in on census date will show on your transcript and will attract tuition fees (and if you are a CSP student they will also count towards your Student Learning Entitlement).  Although after census date you cannot enrol in any new units, you can still drop units (option 2 above). Units dropped before the first day in the 10th week of the semester will show in your transcript as withdrawn (WD). Any withdrawal after this date will show as a fail.

When changing units always remember to check that your progression towards your course requirements is still on track.
