Period of candidature and enrolmentThe Bachelor of Science (Honours) course is normally completed as a one-year (two semesters) full time program requiring the completion of a total of 48 credit points. In some areas of specialisation part time enrolment is permitted, with an enrolment of 12 credit points per semester over four consecutive semesters. After four weeks from the commencement of the project unit you will not normally be permitted to change from full time to part time candidature, and then only with the permission of the Associate Dean (Teaching) and upon the recommendation of both the School Honours Coordinator and the relevant head of school/department. Students are not normally permitted to undertake part time, or full time, honours studies concurrently with any other studies, including any other requirements towards a double degree program. DefermentOnce you have been offered admission into the honours program you cannot defer your offer. You will need to simply reapply for the Honours program within five years of completing your undergraduate degree. IntermissionLeave of absence during the honours program may only be granted in exceptional circumstances. The maximum period of intermission for full time candidates is six months and part time is twelve months. You must make contact with your Honours supervisor and the Faculty of Science Honours coordinator. An application form for intermission must be completed and endorsed by your honours coordinator and submitted to the faculty office (pdf 63kb) (doc 95kb). Intermission is not normally granted to allow students to pursue other studies during their course.
