Enrolment and re-enrolment

Monash Exchange and Study Abroad Program

If you are enrolled in a Monash University course you can attend an overseas university as an Exchange or Study Abroad student and receive credit towards your Monash degree. You can also study at an overseas campus of Monash University as an Intercampus Exchange student.

Exchange Program

Monash University has exchange partnerships with more than 115 universities in 28 different countries.  If there is an exchange agreement between Monash University and the host university then you would pay tuition fees at Monash University as you do now.

Study Abroad

If Monash University does not have an exchange partnership with an overseas institution you would like to attend, you can still apply to enrol as a study abroad student. You would then be required to pay tuition fees at the host overseas institution.

Intercampus Exchange

You also have the opportunity to study part of your degree at an overseas campus of Monash University.  Selected science units are offered at both the Sunway campus in Malaysia and the South Africa campus.

Eligibility for Monash Abroad Programs for Science students

To be eligible for a study abroad or exchange program you generally must have, prior to the application date:

  • completed at least 42-48 credit points of your Science course at Monash.
  • achieved a credit average (60%) or above in the results so far in your current course. (* see below)
  • be able to study a full time load overseas which can be approved for credit towards your current course according to course requirements.

*   Due to earlier application closing dates, if you are planning to go on intercampus exchange, to the University of California or to a Japanese University in Semester 1 of your second year, your exchange study plan may be conditionally approved subject to you achieving the required 60% average and passing 48 credit points at Monash University.  Conditional approvals will only be given if results in Semester 1 indicate that achievement of the 60% average is likely.

Please note:

  • If you are enrolled in a pass degree or the Bachelor of Science component of a double degree you must complete at least 12 points of level three units in the area/s of specialisation at Monash University.
  • Study at another institution will normally not be approved for any of the Science honours courses or the honours component of four-year Science programs.
