Enrolment and re-enrolment

Summer Semester Enrolment 2011/2012

Summer semester

The Faculty of Science offers a limited number of level two and level three science units during summer semester 2011-2012. It may be possible to use summer semester to accelerate your study towards completion of your degree, or as a catch up semester.

You can commence enrolling into science summer units from Thursday 1st September 2011 for Australian campuses and from Monday 5 September 2011 for the Sunway campus. Please refer to the table below to check individual unit enrolment closing dates.

Summer semester for the Faculty of Science will officially run over the period from 1 November 2011 to 17 February 2012.

It is your responsibility to check the unit attendance requirements with the unit coordinator before you enrol as these may vary to the published commencement dates.

For research project and special topics units starting and finishing dates are to be negotiated with the unit coordinator. You must seek permission from the school to enrol in research and special topic units to ensure that you have met the unit pre-requisites and approval is dependent on the availability of appropriate supervision and resources. The unit co-ordinator for research units MUST authorise your enrolment by signing your enrolment amendment form and completing a ‘Permission to enrol in a Science Research Project/Special Topics unit’ form. These forms are available from the Faculty of Science, Student Services office on the relevant campus.

The New Zealand field trip is by invitation only from the School of Geosciences.

SUNWAY science units – please refer to the School of Science Sunway campus for details of how to enrol .

IMPORTANT: It is your responsibility to confirm that any summer semester units completed will count towards your current degree and that you have met any unit pre requisite requirements. The pre requisites are outlined in the unit description in the Monash University Handbook. If you have any queries you should contact your managing faculty before enrolling in the summer unit.

How to apply

  • You must have an Enrolment Amendment form signed by the unit coordinator or school/department (signature and printed name required) and a ‘Permission to enrol in a Science Research Project/Special Topics unit’ form (available from the Faculty of Science, Student Services office at the relevant campus) if you are enrolling a research or special topics unit.
  • You must return the signed Enrolment Amendment form to your managing faculty for final consideration and enrolment.
  • If you are enrolling in a research or special topics unit and the Faculty of Science is not your managing faculty, then you are required to have your forms counter signed by the Faculty of Science before taking them to your managing faculty for processing.
Please note: You cannot enrol for summer semester units via WES. Your summer enrolment details can be viewed on WES once your managing faculty has processed your enrolment.

Enrolment by non-Monash students

If you are currently undertaking studies at another institution may also study any one of these units as a cross institutional student (on a non award basis). Please contact the Faculty of Science for information.

Unit cancellations / changes to unit offerings

Every effort will be made to ensure that the units on offer will run. However, units may be cancelled up to one week prior to commencement date if there is an insufficient number of students enrolled in the unit. If a unit is cancelled you will be advised in writing by the relevant school / department to discontinue your enrolment prior to the commencement date. It is your responsibility to discontinue your enrolment by completing an Enrolment Amendment form and lodging the form with your managing faculty.

Discontinuation dates

To discontinue your enrolment in a summer semester science unit you must complete an Enrolment Amendment form and return it to your managing faculty. You must contact the Faculty of Science first to discuss the financial and academic penalties of discontinuing your enrolment in a science summer semester unit.
